Accessibility statement
Last updated 1 October 2026
In short
- We want everyone going through the family court to be able to use familycourt.app.
- We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
- Nobody independent has checked the site against them yet, so we can't say it meets them.
- If something is hard to use, tell us and we will help you another way.
What we have built in
- The site follows your device's setting to reduce motion, so the animations stop.
- The case map is a drawing, and each stop on it has a text description a screen reader can read out.
- Signing in needs no password: we email you a link instead.
- The documents you prepare can be downloaded as Word files, so you can use your own tools to read or change them.
What we know isn't right yet
- Court bundles. The PDF bundle the site builds has page numbers and bookmarks, but it isn't a tagged PDF, so a screen reader may not read it in the right order.
- Documents you upload. We show them as they are. A scanned page or a photo can't be read by a screen reader unless we managed to read the text from it.
- Sign-in links expire. For your security, a sign-in link stops working after a while. If that happens, ask for a new one: it takes a few seconds.
- The case map. Each stop is described, but how the stops connect is described in a single sentence rather than step by step.
- Testing. We haven't yet tested every page with screen readers, voice control or screen magnifiers, or checked every colour combination for contrast.
Telling us about a problem
If you find something hard to use, or you need information in a different format, email support@familycourt.app. Say which page and what happened, and we'll reply as soon as we can. You don't need to explain why you need it.
If you're not happy with how we respond, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
How this statement was prepared
We wrote this statement on 1 October 2026 from our own checks while building the site. It hasn't been independently audited. We'll update it when the site changes and when an audit has been done.
